The Religious Spirit Versus the Spirit of God

Which things have indeed a show of wisdom, in voluntary religion and humbleness of mind, and in not sparing the body, which are things of no value, since they pertain to the filling of the flesh. Colossians 2:17

Of all the spirits and principalities Satan can unleash, in my opinion, the religious spirit is the most difficult to deal with. The religious spirit is self-righteous and is rooted in pride. If you are a member of the institutional church, I’ll come right out and say it: You have a religious spirit. The institutional church is juxtapose to the Spirit of God. It is ruled by the natural and the man-made beliefs and acts men and women deem falsely as spiritual, but in reality are based in the law.

Any mandated act, behavior, or the use of an object based on what we do, and the spiritual attributes attached to it, emanates from the law. And these acts, behaviors, the revering of men and women in appointed positions, including the revering of religious objects and church buildings are all idolatry. If you are a “churchgoer” and if you could hear the Spirit of God, you would be on your knees repenting for participating in this man-made, idolatrous system. You would know beyond any doubt there is only One Church – the Body of Christ (His Ecclessia). Church is not the organizations, buildings, and laws men have created – the Church is who we are in Christ. The guilt of not adhering to these works of the law comes from Satan – not Jesus Christ.

The law did not just exist in the Old Covenant – it is alive and well today. Today, we have are own man-made laws keeping with the traditions of Jewish leadership, but calling it “church” instead. We have replaced the Jewish synagogues which operate under the law with our man-made “churches” that operate under the law. Our new “laws” are diabolical to the words Jesus spoke and sets itself in opposition to the grace and freedom He sacrificed for us. A believer with a religious spirit does not realize the man-made church system is of the anti-Christ. He or she can not recognize it – because he or she is a part of it. We will lose many of you on that one – but it is the truth.

“A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! Matthew 10:24-25

Believers with a religious spirit have been taught attending “church,” financially supporting it, and participating in “church” activities is what God desires from them. You will often hear “churchgoers” make statements like, “Go to “church” or “How was “church?” Churchgoers fail to understand that “church” is not a place you go to, or something you do – it is who we are in Christ. Even worse, they equate having a relationship with a “church” as being the same as having a relationship with Jesus Christ. They are without excuse, because not only God has given us His Word, but those who abide in Him – hear His voice. Believers with a religious spirit do not have the ability to discern the truth. The religious spirit drowns out the voice of the Holy Spirit, as it takes residence in the believer’s heart. Laws and customs simply replace the truth in God’s Word.

These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. 1 John 2:26-27

Do God expects us to be able to distinguish between the religious spirit and the Spirit of God? You better believe He does.

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. Matthew 23:13

Let’s look at some of the characteristics of a believer with a religious spirit:

*A believer with a religious spirit never – or rarely question their “church” leaders.

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but prove the spirits, whether they are of God; For many false prophets have gone out everywhere.” 1 John 4:1

*A believer with a religious spirit revere men or women with titles of preeminence over other believers.

“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for only one is your Teacher and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth your ‘Father’, for only one is your Father and He is in Heaven. Nor are you to be called ‘Master’, for only one is your Master, the Christ.” (Matthew 23:8-10).

*The believer led by the Spirit of God puts his or her faith in the Holy Spirit. He or she does not look to men for the answers, but instead look to God’s Word.

Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so. Acts 17:11

*A believer with a religious spirit is afraid to look into anything that might challenge his or her beliefs. Anything that goes against the truth in the Word of God is based in unrighteousness.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12

*A believer with a religious spirit takes great pride in being a churchgoer, and secretly desires to be seen by men.

For that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. Luke 16:15

*A believer with a religious spirit believes a “church building” is required to worship God properly.

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. Acts 17:24

*A believer with a religious spirit elevate what men have said over the truth in God’s Word.

For the time will come when they will not suffer wholesome doctrine: but having their ears itching, shall after their own lusts get them an heap of teachers, And shall turn their ears from the truth, and shall be given unto fables. 2 Timothy 4:3-4

*A believer with a religious spirit likes for others to see him or her dressed up in “church” attire and inwardly seek the accolades of being labeled a good Christian.

People judge others by what they look like, but I judge people by what is in their hearts. 1 1Samuel 16:7

*A believer with a religious spirit frequently speak in superficial “Christianese” babble, often inserting Scriptures into conversations to demonstrate their “spiritual prowess” to others. (What’s key here is motive – the need to be perceived by others as being a spiritual or a good Christian). There is nothing wrong speaking about Jesus Christ if it is based in true genuineness without fleshly motives, such as trying to impress other believers, or seeking their approval.

Now I beseech you brethren, mark them diligently which cause division and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned, and avoid them. For they that are such, serve not the Lord Jesus Christ but their own bellies, and with fair speech and flattering deceive the hearts of the simple. Romans 16:17-18

*A believer with a religious spirit refuses to examine his or herself for sin, and their idolatrous relationship with man-made institutions.

Making the word of God of none authority, by your tradition which ye have ordained: and ye do many such like things. Mark 7:13

*A believer with a religious spirit takes pride in what they do, for instance; going to “church,” and the activities they participate in at their “church organizations.” In other words, they walk in the flesh by engaging in man-made activities, but call it Spirit. For example, printing brochures, leading Sunday School, participating in the clothing ministry, organizing the retreat, dressing up for “church,” planning seminars, tithing, shopping for new pews, running vacation Bible School, organizing the children’s play, etc.

These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by man. Matthew 15:8-9

*A believer with a religious spirit enjoys the idea of someone having authority over him or her, by falsely assuming it lets one off the hook for his or her relationship with God. I know this verse has been previously cited in this article, but we must reiterate it is the believer’s responsibility for their walk with Jesus Christ.

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. Matthew 23:13

*A believer with a religious spirit boast and takes pride in following his or her pastor or priest.

For when one saith, I am Paul’s, and another, I am Apollos’s, are ye not carnal? Who is Paul then? and who is Apollos, but the ministers by whom ye believed, and as the Lord gave to every man? 1 Corinthians 3:4-5

*A believer with a religious spirit does not have the ability to discern in the spirit, but makes decisions based on the religious doctrines and the teachings of man.

Now the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually examined. But he that is spiritual examines all things, and he himself is examined of no man.” 1 Corinthians 2:14-15

*A believer with a religious spirit check his or her brain in at the “church” door before proceeding, and allows the men or women preaching inside to fill it up with whatever they desire.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ. Colossians 2:8

*A believer with a religious spirit idolize and revere those who are in “church leadership.”

Beware of false prophets , who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves. Matthew 7:15

*A believer with a religious spirit has a strong desire that others perceive he or she as being a spiritual Christian, and will talk and engage in behaviors in an effort to get the approval of others.

And when thou prayest, be not as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the Synagogues, and in the corners of the streets, because they would be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward. Matthew 6:5

*A believer with a religious spirit thinks that a “church building” holds a special power or anointing, and that God is somehow more prevalent inside its’ walls built by human hands than outside.

Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? Acts 7:49

*Believer with a religious spirit does not like to think for themselves – instead they prefer someone deemed in power do it for them.

Now we have receiveth not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit, which is of God, that we might know the things that are given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the holy Ghost teacheth, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. 1 Corinthians 2:11-12

*Believers with a religious spirit likes to elevate themselves over others by perceiving those around them as being less spiritual.

Where is the wise?…Does not God make stupid the wisdom of this world? 1 Corinthians 1:20

*A believer with a religious spirit is very knowledgeable about church dogma and customs, but does not truly know the heart of Jesus.

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him. But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10

*A believer with a religious spirit look to and place his or her faithfulness to their church first – and than subsequently to Jesus Christ.

Know that a man is not justified by the works of the Law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we, I say, have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the Law, because that by the works of the Law, no flesh shall be justified. Galations 2:16

*A believer with a religious spirit is afraid and not confident in the truth if it is not based in the laws of man.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28

Believers with a religious spirit surrenders their relationship and Lordship of Jesus Christ to their pastor or priest in order for them to mediate their relationship with God.

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 2:5

*Believers with a religious spirit believe their pastor or priest has a protective, spiritual covering over them, which is not only false, but is a concept based in mysticism with no spiritual basis.

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in destructive, untrue teachings, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their destructive ways; by reason of whom the way of truth will be defamed.2 Peter 2:1-2

*A believer with a religious spirit believes going to church is a sign of being a Christian.

Which things have indeed a show of wisdom, in voluntary religion and humbleness of mind, and in not sparing the body, which are things of no value, since they pertain to the filling of the flesh. Colossians 2:23

*A believer with a religious spirit allows men to exercise their authority over him or her, that belongs to Jesus and Him alone.

“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles are lords over them, and those who are great exercise authority (or are tyrants) over them. Yet It will not be so among you. Matthew 20:25-26

It is time for you to make a choice: continue to be led and held captive by a religious spirit, or chose to be led by the Spirit of God.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and Truth: for the Father requireth even such to worship him. God is a Spirit, and they that worship him, must worship him in Spirit and Truth. Matt 24:23-24

EKKLESIOLATRY

Stanley L. Morris

Please note that we have published this article in its’ original content unaltered. We do not use the KJV for reasons already expounded on within this website, but wanted the author’s content to stay true to his original work.

There are many kinds of idolatry mentioned in Scripture.  All of them are soundly condemned. Usually we think of the physical objects that people worshiped (e.g. Baal, Asherah, Dagon, Chemosh, etc.) however, more subtle, unseen things can also get in the way.

IDOLATRY

For example, “… covetousness, which is idolatry” KJV, Col. 3:5 – pleonexia = literally, the constant desire to have more.  See the parallel passage: “No immoral, impure or greedy person such a man is an idolater — has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”  NIV, Eph. 5:5  Avarice is also closely associated with idolatry in 1 Cor. 5:10,11 and 6:9,10. This must have been what Jesus was talking about in Matt. 6:24 (“mammon” means money). It does not refer to money itself but the “love” of it.  That’s where the root of the problem is 1 Tim. 6:10, cf. Num. 22:1-38; Jude 11; Rev. 2:14; Judg. 17-18; Micah 3:11, 7:3; Mark 12:40; Luke 16:14,15; Acts 1:18,19

BIBLIOLATRY

I have also seen some people turn their particular copy of the Bible or translation of the Bible into AN OBJECT OF WORSHIP.  Out of an inordinate reverence (nearly superstition) for the paper and ink, these individuals would not even mark important notes there to remember.

These persons usually do not know the Scriptures that well.  They merely “revere” the Bible as a sacred relic from the past which is just too holy to be UNDERSTOOD.  Others insist that the ONLY true version of the Bible is the translation that their parents or grandparents used exclusively.  Usually, they are referring to the “unchanging” King James Version, even though there have been thousands of changes in it since it first appeared in 1611.

(The first edition is almost unreadable today.) I always ask them: “Which King James Version?” And, “Do you accept the Old Testament Apocrypha as inspired of God?  No?  Did you know that the 15 portions or books of the Apocrypha were included in the first edition of the KJV?”

Their response is often stunned silence.

These unfortunate souls have acquired the mistaken belief that the Bible is intrinsically DIVINE, in and of itself, thus treating it as if it were a magical charm or amulet.  Now, don’t misunderstand or misquote me, I’m NOT saying that the Bible is not inspired.  Several passages make it very clear that the ORIGINAL Holy Scriptures were “God-breathed” (2 Tim. 3:16,17) from “men who were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Pet. 1:20,21 ).

But, unchecked, there is a tendency for people to begin worshiping the physical instrument which God has used to convey His message (e.g. the bronze snake that Moses employed in Num. 21:4-9; it became an idolatrous snare to the Israelites in later years, 2 Kings 18:4).

When individuals do this sort of thing, they are forgetting the very God who INSPIRED the original prophets or apostles who spoke and wrote the things which are contained in the Bible.  Besides, any subsequent TRANSLATION of these sacred writings is only a frail, uninspired, human attempt to convey the meaning of the original language.  And, no matter how hard human translators may try NOT to err, there WILL inevitably be some mistakes, even in their best efforts.  No one Bible translation in any language can suffice for everyone for all time!  The nature of language is to CHANGE, in order to adapt itself to the constant flux of culture through time.

WHAT IS EKKLESIOLATRY?

It is well known that false gods of one kind or another have always plagued humankind down through history, but there may well be an even greater threat to the people of God today than the more overt items mentioned above EKKLESlOLATRY.  What in the world is that?  Well, that’s a word that I have just coined to describe what I am observing to be so prevalent today.

Simply put, it is the worship of “CHURCH.”

Oh, I’m not saying that people are doing obeisance to the church building.  I wish it were as simple as that.  No, it is far more serious.  The “edifice complex” is just the tip of the iceberg. Ekklesiolatry entails EVERYTHING inculcated within the modern usage of the English word “church”. What is more important, The CHURCH or Christ?

In the 2nd and 3rd centuries A.D., the followers of Christ were so totally engulfed in an error called Gnosticism that it nearly snuffed out the faith (Jude 3) entirely.  The rough elements of our historic faith were almost eclipsed by the theological demands of a clashing Greek philosophical world view.  If certain valiant Christians had not protested, WE might not even be here!  We would have been cut off from our roots.

In the same way, “ekklesiolatry” is the general condition wherein total allegiance is transferred from God to some man-made INSTITUTION (of whatever brand).

There is heavy pressure by those in alleged “authority positions” (whether papal, pastoral, or presbyterian) upon those who have submitted to this self-appointed “authority” to cause them to conform.  If these “leaders” succeed, they control the whole situation. They BECOME God.

If they cannot achieve compliance, they quickly lose control.  It is that simple.  Therefore, they must always wave the big stick (the threat of excommunication) in front of the people to maintain “law and order” (cf. John 9:22; 12:42).  That’s precisely what gives them their “power.” Take it away and they are ordinary men.

I used to think that the bane of our society was “denominationalism.” I thought that all we need do was to narrow it down to the one true church of Christ.  I now believe that the universal error is much worse than I ever imagined. “Joining the church of your choice” is only symptomatic of a much deeper underlying corruption.

CONCLUSION

The correct term to describe this spiritual malady is not “churchianity,” “Christendom,” or even “Christianity,” but “EKKLESIOLATRY” – a foreboding term indeed, for it portends of outright abandonment of the true worship of God in lieu of the more exciting liturgical “worship services” invented by men to instill reverence (cf. Col. 2:20-23).

All of us are faced with a serious dilemma.  Once we realize that it IS much worse than we first thought, what do we DO about it?  What CAN we do about it?

Who would believe such a “preposterous” thing?  Surely you are NOT suggesting that ALL people in ALL “churches” are wrong?

What would our community be without its fine, upright, law-abiding “churches” of the establishment?  Are you seriously intimating that all people stay home and boycott those magnificent sanctuaries built to accommodate large crowds, to meet their “needs”

Are you saying that EVERYBODY ought to meet in homes?  How far out can you get!?

I guess the early Christians didn’t know any better – Acts 2:2; 2:46; 5:42; 8:3; 10:32; 12:12; 16:15,32,34; 17:5; 18:7,8; 20:20; 21:8; Rom. 16:5; I Cor. 16:15,19; Col. 4:15; 2 Tim. 1: 16; Titus 1:11; Philm. 2).

They had not heard how ESSENTIAL our fancy church buildings and high-powered hireling homileticians are for running the religious industry.

Maybe God will forgive them for their ignorance?

A Name Above All Names: “Church”

You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.” And he said to them: “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! Mark 7:8-9

Move over Jesus – you have competition! The crowd has spoken and they have chosen “church” as the one thing they hold most dear to their hearts. Oh how the religious spirit loves talking about “church!” But no worries Jesus – you come in third place, behind Pastor Joe. There you have it – below is the pecking order if you missed it…

  • 1st Place – Your “church”
  • 2nd Place – Your pastor/priest
  • 3rd Place – Jesus Christ

We realize most are saying this counterfeit “church system” is for Jesus, and it’s all about Him. My friend in Christ, you are truly deceived if you believe what you call “church” is for Jesus. No – the “church system” is about sustaining itself and the livelihood of your pastor, first and foremost. But it is also about you, and your obedience to men and the law. “Church” is designed to give you a false sense of spiritual maturity and security in your walk with Jesus. Our “churches” at their very core are idolatrous substitutes for our relationship with Jesus. They are based on the teachings of men that have nothing to do with Jesus Christ, other than the misuse of His name in an effort to establish legitimacy.

The sermon, comprising of oratories that originated out of Greco-Roman paganism, is the appointed time when the “churchgoer” will finally hear the name of Jesus mentioned. During the sermon, the crowd is directed to the notion that somewhere deep down in the bowels of the “church institution,” this thing we call “church” is for Him. The other 90% of time, the attention is back on the “church,” its programs, its activities, and most importantly, how you are a part of meeting its’ needs.

If you listen to ardent “churchgoers,” you will soon discover what is the number one topic among them. Sadly, it is not Jesus – it is their “church organization.” Instead, the overwhelming topic among “churchgoing” believers, and the name mentioned far above all other names – is church.” “Churchgoers” love bragging about going to “church.” They generally fit this fact into as many conversations as possible to garner praise from others. The sad thing is they do not realize what they are doing. It is self-aggrandizement at its’ best, and IF you would stop and be honest with yourself, you know deep down this is absolutely true. All activities, programs, retreats, seminars, dressing up, meetings, tithes, bake sales, conferences, etc; all of this centers around the “institutional church” main focus – the “church organization” itself. These things stand in juxtaposition to the price Jesus paid on the cross, and all He ever asked or desired from us.

I was shopping at a grocery store just recently, and I overheard an employee speaking to some of the other workers. He said, “Church” comes first over everything else in my life.” Think about that statement. You would think he would had said, “Jesus Christ” comes first over all other things in his life. Instead of witnessing Jesus to his fellow employees, he witnessed “church.” To put Jesus and “church” on equal footing is simply idolatry. Our “churches” are not Christ – our “churches” are man-made institutions based on works of the law, patterned after the Jewish system of worship. Our “churches” are for man – they do not serve Christ, nor are they the Church (actually Ecclesia) in the New Testament. Jesus is the Head of God’s Ecclesia – man is the head of the world’s “churches.”

Again, if you listen to the majority of “churchgoing” believers, regardless whether they are Catholic or Protestant, you will hear the word “church” mentioned far more times than you hear the name of Christ. Don’t even dare say this is not true. Whether you realize it or not, you are far more interested in protecting your “church,” and the things you cherish. “Church institutions” are counting on just that, and they have done their best to convince you that “church” and Jesus are one and the same thing. This is absolutely false, and is nothing but idolatry. Everything about this concept of going to “church,” and all the facets involved are not biblical. Instead of “church” being who we are, we have made it into a thing.

Let’s look at some examples and the type of things “churchgoers” typically talk about:

  • What am I going to wear to “church” Sunday?
  • We are looking into hiring a new pastor for our “church.”

  • Jesus…Huh? What? Who?

Stop bringing me your meaningless gifts; the incense of your offerings disgusts me! As for your celebrations of the new moon and the Sabbath and your special days for fasting – they are all sinful and false. I want no more of your pious meetings. I hate your new moon celebrations and your annual festivals. They are a burden to me. I cannot stand them! When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims. Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. Isaiah 1:13-17

Jesus plays second fiddle to our man-made traditions and rules. Make no mistake – Satan is the mastermind behind all of this. What we call “church” is cleverly dubbed as giving honor to Jesus; yet, these very things take precedence over our relationship with Him. “Churches” are not about Jesus Christ – it is about our relationship with a man-made organization. It is about us being falsely misled into believing we are still under the law. It is about Satan deceiving us into believing that as long as we engage in a “church” programs and services, we are saved. Instead, our willful participation in this idolatrous, man-made contraption places our eternal destiny in peril. Yes, we believe a person who declares Jesus as his or her Savior can be unsaved, or become not saved. We will elaborate more on this at some point in time.

The world believes (and you are part of that world if you go to “church,” that one cannot have a real relationship with Jesus, unless they are part of this worldly, idolatrous system. We say these things are about Christ, when in fact these things are about us, and our willingness to accommodate the desires of men. God is grieved by our participation in this thing we call “church.” The fear and guilt heaped on your back by “church leadership” keeps you under the yoke of bondage. It is a strategy straight from the depths of hell. This thing we call “church” is about advancing man’s kingdom – not God’s. It is about keeping you busy with “church” related matters that have nothing o do with Jesus. It is about your desire to feel spiritual, and the need to fit in. These things are not about Christ – these things about you.

Below is an excerpt from Charles Elliott Newbold, Jr. article “The Harlot Church System.” He is far more eloquent in prose than me, and I’m certainly no writer. He truly hits the nail on head as to why believers have fallen for this counterfeit church system.

We have confused our relationship with Christ by fusing it with this Thing we call church. We are led to believe that when we are in a proper relationship with it we are in a proper relationship with Christ; that we have to be a member of a church to be saved or to be a good Christian; that serving it is serving Christ; that loving it is loving Christ; that tithing to it is tithing to Christ.

Instead, people place more importance on their “churches,” and it is deemed as the primary indicator of their relationship with Jesus – not the other way around. Instead of people asking do you have a relationship with Jesus, they are ask “What “church” do you go to?” Instead of saying we are all part of Jesus Christ’s one and only truly Church, believers are asked do you belong to Reverend Joe’s “church”, or Pastor Green’s “church.” Whose church? Reverend Joe’s or Pastor Green’s – not Jesus Christ. Instead of saying we are part of the body of Christ, we say we are Presbyterian, Catholic, Charismatic, Methodist, or Protestant, etc. Simply because an idea or concept is embraced by society or the majority of people, does not mean it is right or is biblical.

Have you ever noticed the reaction of most “churchgoing” believers when they hear someone talk in a derogatory way about God or Jesus Christ? Have you ever noticed their reactions towards those who are atheist or agnostic? They might be sadden – or think what a loss. Or they might be perplexed as to why one does not believe in God. Chances are they will not say anything, but some might choose to dialogue to the non-believer to find out why he or she feel that way. Occasionally, a few may get angry or offended, but for the most part it is dismissed and readily shrugged off.

But watch out! It’s a whole different story if anyone makes what is perceived as a derogatory comment about one’s “church” organization, or the concept of going to “church!” Even a greater outburst awaits if one makes a derogatory comment about a “churchgoer’s” pastor or priest, or someone in “church leadership.” You know…that man or woman you have allowed to usurp Christ’s lordship in your life. That “churchgoer” is likely to become very angry, defensive and deeply offended on a whole new level. Jesus does not come even close to garnishing the passion generated by a believer when his or her “church” – or one’s pastor/priest is criticized. We have seen this happened over and over. The “churchgoer’s” offense over the man-made organization he or she attends is rooted in the flesh – not the Spirit.

Indeed, when this “idolatrous church” system is criticized, “churchgoing” believers usually become very agitated. Typically they will flee, or shutdown. Anything that expose the demonic forces of self, idolatry, or challenges one’s loyalty to man and his laws is immediately discounted. Most believers think that by running away from the truth, God will not hold them accountable. How wrong they are! God knows the difference between one who is running away for Him – or one running to protect his or herself. God tells us to examine all things – but most “churchgoers” refuse to. They’ve been taught to remain ignorant by “church leadership,” and they are content to do so.

More importantly, whether you commit idolatry in ignorance, or knowingly – you still will be held accountable. Throughout your life, God has attempted repeatedly to get your attention – yet you continue to turn away from the voice of the Holy Spirit. Why are you doing this? I will tell you why – you want to protect those fleshy things you call spirit, and you refuse to let anyone or anything between that. Try as you may, you will not be able to deceive Jesus Christ.

In the case of “churchgoers” – we know for most believers (and at one time ourselves included), that we are taught going to “church” is what God desires. This contrivance of man, ultimately birthed out of Catholicism, is the closest thing we have ever seen that supposedly represent God. Seen” is the operative word, because we judge the spirit by what we see, feel, and what we do. And because we are guilty of this, we plainly discard and toss out the truth in God’s Word at the behest of “church leaders.” We feel guilty when we do not do what men tells us to do – but beloved; this is the exact opposite of what Jesus has told us to do. Jesus has replaced all religious systems, all religious structures, and all of the High Priests of the past. He is now our only High Priest, and we are now priests unto Him.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal Priesthood, an holy nation, a people set at liberty, that ye should show forth the virtues of him that hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9

Consider yourself warned – God is a jealous God. He does not take kindly coming in third.

“And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? For we are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore Come ye out from among them, and be ye separate, says the Lord, And touch no unclean thing; And I will receive you, And will be to you a Father, And ye shall be to me sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:16-18

The Root of the Catholic Church and Protestant Church

That which we call church today is an idolatrous system of men’s traditions which is spiritual harlotry. Church is what we do in addition to being who Christ has made us to be in Him. If what we call church can be incorporated, joined, named, referred to as it, and can be taken from us, then it is not the real thing. The true ekklesia is a corporate body of people who are born into it. They have taken only the name of Jesus because they are in a relationship with Him. That relationship cannot be taken from them. Charles Elliott Newbold, Jr.

The “Catholic Church” and the “Protestant Church” are equally idolatrous in eyes of God. The “Catholic Church” and the“Protestant Church” are not the Church in the New Testament. Both Catholic and Protestant “churches” are idolatrous man-made institutions that embrace ideologies, customs and doctrines contrived out of the hearts and minds of man. But there is one crucial difference between the two: the “Catholic Church” was first. Indeed, the “Protestant Church” is indebted to the “Catholic Church” for its’ religious institutions, rules, and traditions. Those things you idolize the most and hold so dear to your heart about this thing you call “church,” (and I’m not talking about Jesus Christ), is courtesy of the “Roman Catholic Church.” Some of the shared man-made customs which by far are the most idolatrous, includes allowing a man or woman to usurp the authority that solely belongs to Christ, attending and supporting this thing we call “church,” and other works of the law – just to name a few. At the end of the day, the “Protestant Church” that you cherish emanated from Catholicism – not from the Bible, and most assuredly not from God.

Surprisingly, many Protestants maintain an air of superiority because they believe their religious traditions and customs are true, and are not idolatrous like the “Catholic Church.” The things that are an abomination and most grievous to God, are the very things Protestants inherited from Catholicism. Protestants definitely did not inherit this man-made “church system” from the believers and apostles during Christ’s time on earth – or after His death. They definitely were not instructed by Paul, Peter, Timothy, or others cited in the New Testament to build these idolatrous, counterfeit organizations we call “church.” And above all – they were never instructed to do this from Jesus Christ. NEVER! NEVER! NEVER!

Let’s look at how believers worshiped God under the law in the Old Testament, and compare it with how believers worship God today.

How did Israel in the Old Covenant worship God?

  • (1) They built and maintained a temple/building.
  • (2) They had a congregational meeting that had a repetitive format that started with praise and  worship.
  • (3) They gave offerings and tithes.
  • (4) Men were told they were required to enter the temple to worship God.
  • (5) There was the High Priest who was in authority over those who entered.

Sounds familiar? Nothing has changed. We are still operating under the law. But now this system is in exact opposition of what Jesus commanded us to do in the New Testament. For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. Hebrews 7:12. Not only does God no longer require a mediator between us and Him – He forbids it.

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5).

YET THIS VERY SYSTEM CONTINUES TODAY FOR BOTH PROTESTANT AND CATHOLIC “CHURCHES”ALIKE.

With the Protestant Reformation, it wasn’t long after men began adapting many of the traditions established by the “Catholic Church”, including building and forming “church organizations.” Pastors simply took the place of the Catholic priest. In the New Testament, elders (literally older men) were not people appointed by organized “churches.” The elders in the Church guided and served others in their communities, but they did not rule. The Church at Corinth, and the Church at Ephesus, were all the believers in that town – they were not organizations. The Church in the New Testament always referred to believers – people only. They did not have this thing we call “church” – or designated believers in positions of authority over others. God does not delegate authority to religious leaders over His people – He forbids it under the covenant in the New Testament. The concept of a pastor or priest being in authority over others is Old Testament law, and was done away with through the death of Jesus on the cross.

When you consider how many Protestants accuse Catholics of idolatry, it is ironic that they are not able to see their own. What do you think God would be most grieved over – a novena prayer to a saint, or surrendering yourself to an authority that only belongs to Jesus? In other words, allowing a pastor or priest to usurp Christ’s authority over your life. How is this possible – for the few who may ask? It is possible by allowing men to hold titles of preeminence and authority among other believers, that is solely God’s alone. Pastor Joe, Father David, Reverend Thomas, Deacon Roberts, etc. Jesus forbids this.

But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. But the greatest among you shall be your servant. (Matt. 23:8-11).

How is the spiritual attributes assigned to a building made by the hands of man, any different than the spiritual attributes assigned to a statue of the Virgin Mary? How is the worship of that building with it’s brick, siding, wood, and the mystical, spiritual attributes applied to it, different than the ceramic and plaster used to construct the statue and its spiritual significance? Both things are inanimate objects that man has attributed spiritual significance to. Both are idols in the eyes of God. God is not any more present inside a “church”, than He is outside of it. God is just as preeminent in a home with 2 or more believers, or in a restaurant with two or more believers gathering together. The home, the restaurant, the statue, the ”church building,” are all worldly things, and are objects that does not possess spiritual attributes. People assign spiritual attributes to these things – not God.

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands Acts 17:24

How is it the Catholic worship of Holy Thursday, or The Feast of the Immaculate Conception, different than the worship and false assumption held by Protestants and Catholics, that Sunday is special and holds more religious significance than other days? There is no biblical authority asserting Sundays after Christ’s death is a day to worship. Jesus never said so. As a matter of fact, it is just opposite. Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am in fear of you, lest I have bestowed on you labor in vain. Galatians 4-10 Jesus not only replaced the Sabbath, but He also replaced the days and traditions set aside to worship on any particular day.

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Colossians 2:16-17

Let’s look at another example regarding Easter. Easter was never celebrated as we know it until it’s inception within the Catholic Church. Consider this elaboration from The Harlot Church System Part 2 by Charles Elliott Newbold, Jr.

Easter is equally idolatrous and chilling. Most Christians affectionately use the term Easter in association with the precious resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ with no regard to the fact that Easter is the English word for the goddess Ishtar (also called Astarte and Eostre in other pagan cultures). Ishtar was celebrated as the queen of heaven. Much of what we do at Easter time also has its origin in paganism. The date on which we celebrate Easter does not regularly coincide with the resurrection of Christ, which occurred three days after Passover. Lent, the sunrise services, the dyeing of eggs, the bunny rabbits are all unscriptural abominations to God.

Here is the simple truth: the vast majority of the early Church met spontaneously at each others homes, and often every day in various settings because they lived among each other. They never met in structures designated for worship, because “church services” and “church buildings” did not exist back then. These believers were the Church 24/7. There are those who are quick to point out that some believers during the first century met on Sunday, but what they fail to acknowledge is these same believers still attended the Jewish Synagogue on Saturday. Their religious mindset was so strong, they refused to let go completely of their Jewish faith, and chose Sunday, the day after the Jewish Sabbath to meet with other Christians. In their minds there was a Jewish Sabbath, and in their carnality and ignorance assumed there was to be a Christian Sabbath. Also, Sunday was an ordinary work day for them. God clearly states that Jesus did away with the Sabbath. Nevertheless, that same carnal mindset continues today.

Through years of teaching the law, they, like most churchgoing believers today, assumed Christianity was still bound to the law, and employed practices and customs that were akin to the Jewish faith. Today, many Christian believers simply assumed like the Jewish faith, there should be a Christian sabbath. This is false. It is nothing less than a rejection of the gift of freedom Jesus gave us through His death on the cross. Although the New Testament mentions the “first day of the week” 8 times, it never had anything to do with a worship service or some meeting believer’s were obligated to attend.

It is not wrong to meet with other Christians – actually God wants us to have fellowship with other believers, but not when it is done under the law, or when it goes against God’s Word. God does not want us to fellowship under false pretenses and conditions that are idolatrous – or if it violates what He commands in the New Testament. We can meet with other believers anytime, everyday, once a month, once a week, Monday afternoon, whatever.“One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” Romans 14:5. There is no inanimate object or a specific place required that is necessary in order to fellowship with other believers.

For where two or three are gathered together in my Name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew 18:20..

God’s Word simply states what He considers fellowship – and make no mistake – fellowship is not based on any rule or tradition. You will not find even a hint in the Bible for us to meet on Sundays – and if you are declaring this false concept, you are unequivocally misusing and abusing God’s Word. You are in essence, a “teacher of the law.” Jesus had quite a lot to say about “teachers of the law .” Nor is there any statement or even a hint that we are meet in a temple made with human hands. Yes folks, a church and a temple are the same – they are both designated places for worship – and they are both idols.

When we preach church, as we craftily do, we thereby preach another gospel, a false gospel. We perpetuate the lie. Charles Elliott Newbold, Jr.

The concept of “going to church” on Sunday, was birthed out of Roman Catholicism, courtesy of Constantine, the Roman Emperor. Again, Protestants, you can thank the Roman Catholic Church for your “church” you cherish, and its’ many man-made traditions and laws you hold dear to your heart. Make no mistake, your “church” is not the Church in the New Testament – not even close. Your “church” and all other “churches” in existence today other than the Body of Christ (the only True Church) originated out of paganism. The “institutional church” is a deception of Satan that usurps religion over Jesus, and serves as a substitution for our relationship with Christ. This would not be possible without churchgoers as yourself, and much to Satan’s delight – it works. I know that will offend many, and we are sorry – but we are trying to open your eyes to your own idolatry.

Meeting with other believers under a system that falsely assert it’s God’s will once a week, twice a week, or whatever, is not only false – it is a idolatry. It is the idolization of man’s precepts over God’s Word. The “institutional church system” and its government violates God Word at the very core on every level. God is a jealous God, who does not like playing second fiddle to anyone or any THING. The “Protestant Church system,” and the “Catholic Church system,” are both idolatrous at its very root. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, he replaced the Sabbath, by providing rest for our souls every day – seven days a week.

The greatest tragedy and the ultimate rejection of the gift Jesus gave us at the cross, is our unwillingness to give up the law. We reject the fact Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law. Oh, we have no problem parroting that Scripture – and our pastors/priests definitely have no problem declaring this. They are fine as long as we do not include or point out their own man-made programs and rituals as a part of this (the law). But lip service means nothing when we insist on continuing with the law, traditions, and customs set forth by man. We refuse to let go of the law. Despite everything that clearly states that Jesus has abolished the law, we won’t let go. We fail to see that our salvation is solely based on our belief as Him as our Lord and Savior, and that is the message we send to the world. We say one thing, but we do another. The world sees it, but we can’t because we are blinded by the doctrines of men – not the Scriptures.

We have been made to believe that this thing we call “church” is of God and that our participation in it is essential to our Christian walk – when in fact it is an idolatrous substitute for Jesus. When Jesus Christ was crucified, the veil of the physical temple was destroyed. And behold, the veil of the Temple was rent in twain, from the top to the bottom, and the earth did quake, and the stones were cloven. Matthew 27:51 This was a sign from God that He no longer requires or desire believers worship in temples made with hands. There is no room for conjecture, however; when we have His Word.

God that made the world, and all things that are therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, a dwelleth not in temples made with hands. Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life and breath and all things… Acts 17:24-25

Nevertheless, despite the New Covenant and God’s Word, men still insist on worshiping in temples made of hands. The motive for pastors is that their livelihood is involved – to be blunt, it is their way of making money. I’m sure, however; there are a few pastors who believe that what they are doing is right, and it’s not just about the money. For the Catholic priest, it’s their profession and what they see as sacrificing their life up for God. For the average believer, it is their way making themselves feel spiritual. Believers like to perceive themselves as spiritual (and we were guilty of this in the past), but in all fairness there is more to this. We love bragging about our church and our participation in their activities. The majority of believers have been led by men to believe this is what God wants from them. It is a lie from the depths of hell, but most can not see this.

The primary reason is they firmly believe this is what God wants them to do. It is the lie church leaders has fed believers for over 1,700 years – a lie based on a false gospel. It’s all we have ever known, or ever been taught. There comes a time and point I believe in every believer’s life, were God has tapped him or her on the shoulder, and said “This is not right – this is deception.” The vast majority of believers choose to ignore this prompting of the Holy Spirit, and continue steadfast on his or her path to destruction. Do not kid yourself – God knows you far better than you even know yourself. He knows your reasons for ignoring His prompting. How deceptive is this lie? The Jewish leadership maintained control of the people who lived in their community, and with Jesus standing right before their very eyes, they still did not recognize God’s Son.Church leadership” today have most believers just as blinded and spellbound as the Jewish leadership over 2,000 years ago who sought the death of Christ.

Another reason is that most believers are simply scared to death to believe anything else. They have so well been fed this lie, that even thinking about anything different frightens them. They are content not to think for themselves, or probe anything they have been taught. They open their mouths wide to be fed the worms “church leaders” dish out, and are praised for doing so. Again, no matter how many times the Holy Spirit has tapped them on the shoulders and said, “Hey, I already told you – this is not right”, they continue on in their harlotry and make the choice to ignore Jesus. They put their religion, their relationships, and their “church” first over God. This is idolatry – and God will eventually hold you accountable.

The most prevailing factor, however; and perhaps the most egregious to Jesus Christ is the believer’s desire to feel self-righteous and spiritual. Going to “church” makes you feel good about yourself. After all, “church leaders” are quick to tell you are a spiritual person if you do so. And of course, you are more than happy to oblige them. I’m sorry – your relationship with God is not about your “church” and your performance and activities within it. Sadly, going to “church” only demonstrates your ignorance of God’s Word, and how proficient you are in the doctrines of men. But you have plenty of company who delight in this orchestration of man, and they will promptly validate that you fit in with the “religious” crowd. They’ll make you and your religious spirit feel right at home. All of these things are indicative of one who puts the world first over his or her relationship with God, and how he or she idolize this worldly system. The “Catholic Church” and the “Protestant Church” are both equal and culpable in that respect.

I will bring this up again: Have you ever wondered where did the pastor come from? The pastor is the Catholic Priest – that’s where the pastor came from. Wait, don’t the Bible – especially KJV, mention the pastor and bishop? Yes, they do, but these words are not found in the original Scriptures – nor are they translatable words from the original Scriptures. This is a well documented and established historical fact. King James ordered many poorly translated words and text, that helped solidify his role, as being the head over the “Church of England” (a.k.a. the “Anglican Church.)” We will be writing more about this at some point. Also see our article “The Truth Behind the King James Bible.”

At the end of your life, you will stand before God, and He will hold you accountable about the choices you made in life. The excuse this is what men taught me will not wash – not when you had His Word all along. He will ask you if you served Him – or your “church.” He will ask you if you served Him – or your pastor or priest. He will ask if you served Him – or a system of rules and traditions that His own Son died on the cross to redeem you from. He will ask you if you served Him – or the friends you made in the “church system.” He will ask if served Him – or if you served duty. He will ask if you served genuine love – or if you went through the motions. One thing you can count on – He will not ask whether you were Catholic or Protestant.

The Prevailing Role & Expectation of Church in Our Society

What we call “church” – permeates every area in our society. “Church” is so ingrained in our minds, that with the orchestration of “church” leaders, this process has now become a thing. We say, “Mother has gone to “church.” “Are you going to “church?” “Church” was really good today.” What “church” do you go to? Instead of acknowledging we (believers) are the only one true Church – we have redefined who we are in Christ, and made it into a process that man has contrived out of the flesh. Make no mistake – the Church Christ built has always been people only. It has never been an organization, a sermon, a building, or any other earthly thing or process that we can ascertain in the flesh.

Church buildings are everywhere –encompassing every corner of the American landscape. We have been beguiled into believing that going to “church” is the way you worship God. We have accepted this without ever giving due thought that “church” has come to take precedence over our relationship with Christ. How have we come to this? It certainly is contrary to anything Jesus ever spoke off. There is not a single scripture in the entire Bible that says believers are to attend, join, start, build, or support a “church.“

These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by man.  Matthew 15:8-9

This past Christmas season, my mother received a good number of Christmas cards, which she typically displays each year. Looking at the cards, it suddenly struck me that the majority of the cards, where not a Christmas tree, or a nativity scene, or Santa – and no, not even Jesus as a baby. Most cards depicted a church; typically a country church, or a small church in the woods, or in some town setting. We have truly substituted our churches for Jesus – as if they are one in the same. We believe our religious acts and traditions, equates to having a relationship with Christ. If we have “church” we have Christ, and I am telling you this is a lie straight from the depths of hell.

Satan is unequivocally brilliant and is the mastermind of deception. Looking at the cards, I thought how incredibly clever and cunning Satan is. He presents our churches as benevolent, when in fact, the devil knows this building – with all its’ protocol and pomp, is nothing but an idolatrous substitute for a genuine relationship with Jesus. I’m sorry to offend, but it is the truth – yet most are blind to this. Satan has orchestrated this thing we call “church”, to replace a real relationship with Christ. And he has succeeded. Instead, our relationship is with the church itself, it’s laws and customs, the people within, and its religious doctrine. This contraption is not only based on a false gospel spawned out of the hearts of man, but is a system and concept forbidden none other by Jesus Christ.

Back to the question – How have it come this? The answer is simple. We are the reason why it has come to this. We have chosen to follow men over God. We have accepted and adopted this idolatrous man-made substitute, simply because it is what we’ve been taught throughout the centuries. For over 1,700 years we have been fed and believed in this lie. Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. Matthew 7:15 We rather church leaders spoon feed us the Word, and remain ignorant, so we don’t have to delve in too deep for ourselves. Church leaders do not want believers to realize there is a connecting theme throughout the Bible; otherwise we will begin to understand that Jesus death actually replaced their positions and authority. We rather pretend the verses stand alone, and parrot them as taught by men. Rest assured, men will avoid anything that would cast suspicion on their power and most assuredly their livelihood.

Listen to the way churchgoers talk about church. Often you will hear: Have you ever been to Pastor Joe’s “church”? Have you ever been to Reverend Ellen’s “church?” Whose “church?” Let’s rewind, and see what they’ve said? Yes, it’s right here – it’s Pastor Joe’s church, and Reverend Ellen’s “church”. Hey, whatever happened to God’s church? Why do we speak as if men or women have ownership over God’s people? The answer is because they have. Did Jesus tell us to do this? Absolutely not! We have allowed man to have authority over God’s people, and we ourselves are submitted to them instead of Christ. In other words, we have allowed them to usurp Christ’s lordship in our lives.

But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. But the greatest among you shall be your servant. (Matt. 23:8-11).

Any man-made church government is a clear violation of Scripture. This truth is starring you in the face, and you do not even see it. Jesus said He alone is the Head of the Church. We will be bold enough to call you out as a liar, if you were to say these buildings and organizations we so adore is what God intended for believers. NOWHERE – is there any institutional church in the New Testament, or a place where a man, or elder, or anyone who has self-appointed himself as a leader. Well, wait a minute – except for Diotrephes, – and the apostle John called him out on it. We will be writing about him eventually.

Other institutions in our society have embraced and accepted without question this man-made tradition and process we call “church” as a normal part of life in this world. Even various applications, such as Social Security, cites “church”, and use it as an example of a social activity for those filing for disability. Surprisingly, they are on to something, because that’s just what man has done – they have transformed and fashioned God’s Ecclesia, into a religious, social club. Many retail businesses and those in the service industries are often closed on Sundays. The postal service use to not run on Sundays and for the most part still does not today. All of this emanated from the religious and church traditions of man that falsely asserts God set aside Sunday as a Christian Sabbath. This is absolutely not true, and it has no biblical basis. But these man-made beliefs and practices have impacted and prevailed in every area of our society.

Commercial and television shows often incorporate the worldly man-made church system into various facets of media entertainment. Take the movie “War of the Worlds.” What could had been a beautiful tribute to the power of prayer, all became dependent and localized inside a “church” building made by the hands of man. The building held the power and took center stage as the refuge from the aliens – not the believers united in faith. The building and it’s mystical powers was the focal point – demonstrated as necessary by the people to enter in order for God to have Him answer their prayers.

I wonder instead what it would had been liked if believers all across the world and different cities started praying; from the streets; from their homes, parks, office buildings, the neighbors, from the fields, the African safaris, Siberia, Mexico, – all being united as the Body of Christ, His Ecclesia. The point is the church building in the movie was not necessary in order for God to answer prayer, nor is it necessary in reality. Anytime you attribute spirituality to an inanimate object, you have committed idolatry. The building served as an idol in the movie, as it does so today.

Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus said unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor at Jerusalem worship the Father. Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and Truth: for the Father requireth even such to worship him. God is a Spirit, and they that worship him, must worship him in Spirit and Truth. John 4:20-24

A very sad commentary: The fact is a person is more apt to be asked what “church” you go to, or come to our “church”, before he or she is even asked, “Do you believe in Jesus Christ?” If you unable to see or admit that, than you are very much ensnared in Satan’s deception, and have a role in aiding and abetting his master plan. This whole man-made church system, caters to the flesh, and is fueled by the demonic forces of hell. It is Satan’s second greatest deception in this world, because not only it holds the believer in bondage, but also the non-believer. It has no basis in Scripture and is fully rooted in the traditions of man.

Our society as well as many others, typically judges a person’s character by their level of participation in organized religion. Instead, they should consider a person’s character by the depth of their relationship with Jesus Christ. But instead, “church” leaders have beguiled us into thinking that our participation in their man-made kingdoms, is the hallmark of what it means to be a believer. Instead, it is the hallmark of one embracing friendship with the world. We measure our Christian walk and the walk of others by what we see and what they do. The flesh requires physical proof. We even subject this unfair standard onto ourselves, as well as others. We need to have a building, a structure, and an organization. We need to see a leader other than Jesus heading the ship. We require something tangible to show God and ourselves, that we are doing what we need to do. That is the role of “church” in this world, and chances are it is yours.

Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” Matthew 24:1-24

The Most Abused & Misused Verse of All Time: Hebrews 10:25

Not forsaking the fellowship that we have among ourselves, as the manner of some is: but let us exhort one another, and that so much the more, because ye see that the day draweth near. Hebrews 10:25

Let us come straight to the point and to the truth: Hebrews 10:25 is NOT about attending “church.” Hebrews 10:25 was written centuries before the organizations men in their carnal nature created, mandated, and called “church.” The true purpose of Hebrews 10:25 is to encourage believers to have interaction or fellowship with other believers. It is a general practice; it is not a rule or command. When the author of Hebrews (the author is unknown, although some speculate it was Paul) was written, there were no such things as “church services,” buildings, or organizations even in existence. In the New Testament, the Church was simply all the believers in a particular community or city.

Hebrews 10:25 is about believers encouraging each other in our walk with Christ. It does not pertain to a specific day set forth to worship God, or joining a “church,” or worshiping inside a building or someone’s home made with human hands. It is far more organic in concept than the rigid customs and laws of religion, and its’ institutions. Make no mistake, God does want us to interact with other believers – but not under the law or the precedent of false doctrines. There is the voice of One who trumps over all of Scripture and speaks the final truth. He speaks with simplicity and there is no room for negation or conjecture. It is Jesus Christ.

For where two or three are gathered together in my Name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew 20:18

It really is that simple. Jesus did not say where the two or three had to gather. He did not say what time or what day they had to meet. He did not say how often they had to gather. He did not say under what conditions they have to gather. He did not say who they have to gather with. It makes no difference to Him. It could be over dinner, by email, phone, at the park or hanging out at someone’s house. The only thing that is required is a minimum of 2 people. The Holy Spirit transcends the buildings we make with hands – no building or house is required for Him to be present. It’s so simple a child could comprehend this. What is so tragic, but yet utterly dumbfounding, is that most adults are too dull to process this. The reason being is they are ruled by the flesh and not by the Spirit. They place their confidence and faith in men and the things of the world, instead of the plain and simple truth in God’s Word. Their confidence lies in the things they see – and their obedience to man-made doctrines.

Is God silent about the laws and traditions of man? Is there anywhere in the Bible where He speaks about a gathering of people practicing the rules and traditions of man? The answer is a resounding yes! From the prophet Isaiah, and out of the mouth of Jesus Himself. Below are two such examples and you find a good number more (that is, if you are inclined to look for them)…

This people draweth near unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with the lips, but their heart is far off from me. But in vain they worship me, teaching for doctrines, men’s precepts. Matthew 15:8-9

Here is the problem with the world, and I mean those who are ensnared or enamored with the man-made church system. If you are part of the institutionalized man-made church system, then you are of the world. Indoctrinated believers will make statements such as, “Well in Hebrews 10:25 and Matt 20:18, Jesus did not say they cannot gather in church buildings, or attend Pastor Joe’s “church”, or give money to a ”church” or not gather on Sundays.” Actually, that is not true. With the exception of the day, only in the respect that every day is the same in God’s eye, Jesus makes it very clear these other things are done away with or forbidden.

Jesus states that He, and He alone in the Head of the Church, and that we were not to place ourselves in authority over other believers.

You know that the rulers of the Gentiles are lords over them, and those who are great exercise authority (or are tyrants) over them. YET IT WILL NOT BE SO AMONG YOU; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. Matthew 20:25-26

Jesus states that believers are not to hold a title of preeminence over other believers, or have others submit to any spiritual authority other than to Himself.

Therefore let no man rejoice in men: for all things are yours. Whether it be Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, whether they be things present, or things to come, even all are yours, And ye Christ’s, and Christ God’s 1 Corinthians 3:21-23

God tells us He does not reside in temples or anything made with human hands.

God that made the world, and all things that are therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands. Acts 17:24

We heard him say, I will destroy this Temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another, made without hands. Mark 14:58

God tells us Jesus has replaced the law and the religious customs and traditions of the past.

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Colossians 2:16-17

Jesus tells us through His death on the cross; He will replace the temples of the past. He tells us that He is the new Temple, and we believers are part of that New Temple.

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 1 Corinthians 3:16-18

Jesus made it crystal clear that He alone is the Head of the Church and that believers are not to subject themselves under the spiritual authority of another believer. He forbids it, as He forbids believers placing themselves in positions of authority of other believers. Not once did Jesus ever instructed anyone to build a church building or a place for worship. Not once did Jesus ever tell believers to meet a specific day, a certain number of times a week, or to join or support a church organization to worship Him. The New Covenant priesthood moves away from ceremony and the Old Testament laws and traditions of men. Jesus tells us it does not matter where a believer worships God – that believers are to worship Him in Spirit and in truth wherever they are.

John 4:21-24

To continue to worship God in structures designated as places of worship, is to continue to embrace the law. The institutional church system today is based and patterned off the Old Testament Jewish system of worship. And yes – it is idolatry. Re-entering into the laws of the Old Covenant nullifies the gift of freedom and grace Jesus provided us on the cross. When you subject your walk with God to a man or woman other than Jesus Christ Himself, you are allowing that person to mediate your relationship with Him. Non-believers immediately recognize that the freedom we proclaim Jesus provides, is a freedom that we reject and do not even accept ourselves. In effect, we have weaved both the Old Covenant and New Covenant in ways that have canceled each other out.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Galations 5:1

Men in church leadership have misled and misconstrued Hebrews 10:25 in the most deceptive manner possible – it is an affront to Jesus and all He stands for. Christ did not come to start a new religion; He came to abolish religion. No one should ever be misled into believing that this man-made church system with its’ doctrine and traditions is of God. Most believers have their culpability backwards: it is when you attend and support the idolatrous church system, you are going against the will of God. Satan has ensnared you with this brilliant deception, knowing that most people will believe this system is for God, when in fact – it is for men.

For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. Acts 20:29-31

We realize many of you may find this very difficult or hard to swallow. Believers have had centuries of false teachings, and the hold of man-made doctrine has obstructed the simple truth in God’s Word. We do not wish to upset anyone, but your offense is the result of the flesh ruling over your relationship with Jesus Christ. God has spent your whole life trying to get you out of this idolatrous “church” system so that He can remove the shackles of religion off your eyes. All He wants you to do is to simply worship Him in Spirit and Truth, and accept the gift of freedom His Son paid with His blood.

When you advocate this man-made church system, you are not preaching life – you are preaching death. You are administering death to the spirit of someone else – by veering him or her of course from developing a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ. Why – for the very few who dare to ask? It really is very simple – these things have replaced our relationship with Jesus Christ. They are substitutes. We are told they represent Him – but instead they stand in His place. Jesus wants us to develop a relationship with Him – instead, we develop a relationship with our “church,” and have the audacity to call “it” and “Jesus” the same thing. Most have no concept how incredibly idolatrous this is.

You claim this is all for Jesus, but your participation and avocation of this system is actually spiritual adultery. Your “church” or your “church organization” comes first above Jesus – it must – its survival depends on it. Your pastor and priest know this, and they are quick to convince you that this is all for Christ – it’s not. It is about the “church organization” itself. They are quick to misrepresent and contort the true message of Hebrews 25:10, because they need and require believers to support their organization. Jesus is the poster child – in truth, it is all about sustaining the “church.” The Church in the New Testament never was an organization, a building, or a service . It was simply believers in a given geographic location – Or – all believers in Christ – His Ecclesia.

And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore, come out from them and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:16-18

The Truth Behind the King James Bible

“THE state of monarchy is the supremest thing upon earth,
for kings are not only God’s lieutenants upon earth and set upon

God’s throne, but
even by God himself they are called gods.”

The quote above is an idolatrous, false statement – which by the way, happened to be made by an individual in the 17th century. We will get to the identity of that “individual” shortly. But we have to ask – do you believe our Heavenly Father would call mere man gods? Do you believe Jesus Christ view those in this monarchy as fellow colleagues? Or that they will sit upon the throne of God as deities? If you say yes to the above questions, than you are just as much an idolater as the person who said this. That quote is not just some flippant statement about the authority of one’s government – it is far more egregious than something that simple. “That someone” by the way – is none other than King James, who decreed and orchestrated the King James Bible. Make no mistake – the quote above personifies his entire approach and mentality towards the translation of the King James Bible.

Many believers have an idolatrous relationship with the King James Bible. They think the KJV is the only correct translation. Most KJV idolaters believe it is the first Bible – and the perfect translation of all time. They idolize the actual book, and believe it preserved Scripture for all eternity. All of this is completely false. KJV idolaters believe this solely because King James declared it as the “authorized version,” – as oppose to it not being declared authorized by him. They really don’t know why they believe it is the authorized version, other than the simple fact that King James declared it as such – God Almighty certainly did not declare it. They enjoy the Old English; the thees and thous – and many garner a great sense of pride quoting the poetic nature of them. Indeed, the prose used to describe God’s Word in the KJV can be quite eloquent and impressive in its’ literary style.

If the King James Bible was the perfect and only translation, it would had never been revised. Not once, or twice, but 5 times. The voice of God need not be revised, it is perfect – only the voice of man requires revision. The first KJV came out in 1611. The translation of today, is for the most part based in the major 1769 revision, which occurred 158 years after the first edition. The original translation also contained the Apocrypha books, which many Protestants do not believe were uniquely inspired, and were part of the Catholic bibles. In 1546, the Roman Catholic Council of Trent approved the Apocrypha books for all Roman Catholic Bibles. The Apocrypha books remained in the King James Bible until the year 1666.

How do we know it was solely King James who authorized the KJV? Well, it really is quite simple – we have both his decree – and we have the the original Scriptures. The only – and I mean the absolutely only reason why the King James Bible is declared as the authorized version is – because James declared it so. He decreed it officially, and set into the law that it was the official Bible for believers. His declaration that his Bible was “authorized” in effect, made all other Bibles – “unauthorized.” That’s it.

Because people do not like to exercise their brains, they simply accept this and give no further cognition towards this false assumption. The King James Bible is not God, nor is it His equal – it is a book translated by humans who are fallible, pliable, and obedient to the instructions of their King. It is a book that drew most heavily from the Bishops Bible, and some of its’ predecessors. It is not the perfect Word of God – if it were, it would not have been both edited and revised over and over again.

Now don’t get me wrong – overall, the majority of the KJV is a good translation, but areas touching on King James authority or anything that threatened the idea of the Church of England, was intentionally mistranslated or distorted. Translators did this by by altering the true meaning behind the original Scriptures. Of paramount importance to King James, was that his Bible reflect the authority of the hierarchical structure of the “church,” and that it distinguish the line between clergy and laity. In other words, the KJV reinstates an authority akin to the Levitical Priesthood in the Old Testament – the very priesthood Jesus Christ did away with through His death.

The KJV is not perfect, and it does indeed hold many errors and a good number of misrepresentations. There are words that were incorrectly mistranslated from Greek and Hebrew, into English. This is significant. In some cases, it was intentional, like translating “the Ecclesia”, or “congregation” into the word “church.” Or the word “office”, which was not mistranslated at all because it was not in the original Scriptures, but was inserted in the KJV by translators. Even yet another example is the word “preach.” The greek word for “preach” is dialegomai, which means dialogue, ” not a “monologue.” Dialegomai means “to converse, discourse with one, argue, discuss.” There are a good number of other words, which we intend to write about at some point and time.

The KJV relied on a good number of its’ texts centuries later, as oppose to other translations and texts that have been completed with dates closer to the death of Christ. There are also passages in the KJV, which are not part of the older manuscripts, or the original Scriptures at all. Nevertheless, it is one of church leadership’s favorite, because King James shared the same carnal desires that those in church leadership espouse.

What are the carnal desires of church leadership for the few who care to ask? It is the desire is to exercise authority over others – and the desire to protect one’s position by distorting the Scriptures in God’s Word. The desire of church leadership is to keep their followers in bondage, by misconstruing God’s Word to mean something that is not true, but is advantageous to their positions. If they fail to do so, and choose to go by what is truly God’s Word, they would be out of a job. Most have rationalized this away in an effort to live with themselves, and many absolutely know they do not have any biblical authority. No one who truly is following Jesus Christ, would ever place him or herself in authority over another believer. It is next to impossible; however, to convince any church leaders that they are wrong, because their salaries depend on it. Most are fully aware of this, but I do believe there are a few don’t – and a mean a few. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41).

“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money (Matthew 6:24).

Many enamored by the King James Bible, falsely assert it is the first translation of the Bible into English. That is not true. John Wycliffe’s Bible was translated from Latin into English in the 1400’s. William Tyndale translated the New Testament before he was put to death for correctly translating Scriptures the Church of England viewed as undermining their authority. Scriptures such as using the word “congregation” instead of “church.” In addition, the Great Bible, the Geneva Bible, the Coverdale Bible, the Bishops Bible, and the Douay English Bible, by the Catholic Church, were translated into English before the first KJV. Again, the King James Bible primarily was translated from the Bishops Bible.

All of this begs the question as to what actually led to the KJV translation. King James had political motives for putting into fruition the King James Bible. He was threatened by the conflict between the Church of England (the Anglican Church), and the Puritans. King James ire was also directed at the Geneva Bible (the Puritans Bible of choice), which prior to his orchestration of the KJV translation in 1611, was the primary Bible of Protestants. King James did not like the fact that the Geneva Bible recognized the priesthood of all believers. He also did not want any possibility of anything dissolving the inter-connectivity between “church” and state.

For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. Hebrews 7:12

James was threatened by this position. He felt it undermined his authority over the Church of England – now you know why “church leadership” rarely, if ever, talk about the priesthood of all believers. The KJV would reiterate the authority of kings and bishops over the Body of Christ; a stance directly opposed to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Any man-made church government is a violation of Scripture; which is one reason of many, as to why the institutional church is not biblical. In addition, which was of prime importance to James, was to establish legitimacy in his power in direct opposition to the pope and the Catholic Church. These are the reasons behind the so-called “authorized” version of the King James Bible. It was motivated by both political and social reasons onlynot spiritual.

Great care was given to hide the more original Scriptures from the masses. Why? Because if the people were to study them, they would know the KJV was not always a true translation. The priesthood of all believers as Christ intended was too much for King James stand by idly, while allowing the Geneva Bible go unabated. He also viewed the marginal notes in the Geneva Bible as a political threat, because he believed many of the notes undermined his authority.

So, King James turned his attention to Richard Bancroft, who was soon to be the Arch Bishop of Canterbury. Bancroft was to lead a team of translators to produce – tada… the “Authorized Version” of the King James Bible. The foundational base of the KJV was taken from the Bishops Bible first produced in 1568, and revised in 1572 and 1602. Much to James delight, the Geneva Bible, in his mind and the world’s, would now become “unauthorized.” Such a superficial man-made ploy worked, with help of course from the master of deception. The people in their ignorance obliged King James, as do many of the people in their ignorance oblige him today. Who would know, that someone could snap their fingers, and say, I decree this to be the” authorized version,” that there would only be a few walking in God’s true Spirit to question it.

Bancroft in total, over saw 47 translators. For the translators, it was not hard to misconstrue and misrepresent what God truly calls His Church ( the Ecclesia). By the time the King James version was completed, the Catholic Church had already been in power for over 1,300 years. The idea of what we call “church” was already captive in the minds of men – courtesy of the Roman Catholic Church. Translators came indoctrinated with over 1,300 years of man-made traditions and false teachings, as they sat down to the task of translating. All of the man-made traditions and works of the law were so ingrained in the masses, that people no longer questioned that this thing we call “church,” was unequivocally not the Church in the New Testament. The original KJV even contained the Apocrypha, which remains in Catholic Bibles of today. In the 1666 revised KJV; 55 years after the original KJV translation, the Apocrypha was taken out.

It was critical to King James that the erroneous, manufactured idea of what we call “church,” be emphasized in his translation. Translators were given specific commands to keep the old ecclesiastical terms intact from what was already in the Bishops Bible, and the Catholic bibles. King James gave translators instructions that they were not to change the word “church,” in order to conceal the true meaning of God’s Ecclesia. He demanded the word “church” was to replace words like congregation, Ecclesia, etc. The actual instructions King James gave to translators exist to this very day. By the way, many words in the KJV were derived and heavily influenced by Roman Catholicism.

King James wanted to make certain that any hint of the words “Ecclesia” and “congregation” instead of “church” – would not be found in his translation. William Tyndale’s goal was to remove this false, ungodly focus off a building, and unto a people who belong to Jesus Christ 24/7. For where two or three are gathered together in my Name, there am I in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20).  It truly is just that simple. There were a few times Tyndale referred to a large group of believers as the congregation, but they were not gathering for a mandatory, planned service called “church.” In another example, he used the word “congregation” in Acts:17, to refer to a riotous crowd in Ephesus. Most of the times believers met with a few others, or in small groups, but occasionally larger crowds met in various circumstances. But none – not once in all in the New Testament ever met for “church” – the were all The Church 24/7. Going to “church” or the mandate one must attend “church” is contrivance of man.

William Tyndale knew the word “church” was not a true translation of the word “Ecclesia.” Ecclesia has nothing to do with a physical place, it is a spiritual assembly comprised of every believer in Christ. He was deemed a serious threat to powerful system of the clergy and monarchy. And because Tyndale put the true word denoting God’s people and other biblical truths; his translation costed him his life in 1536. He was a fugitive for many years, but ultimately he was hung – not by King James, but his predecessor, Henry VIII.

In the original Scriptures of the New Testament, the word “Ecclesia” appeared 115 times. The word “church” did not exist in the original New Testament Scriptures – it is a term birthed several centuries later. King James instructed Bancroft and the translators to substitute the word “church” in every instance except for three places. Translators knew that the word “church” simply would not fit in place of the word “Ecclesia,” as in the original scriptures. The translators ultimately were forced to abandon their false translation in these three instances. They applied their deceptive translation, however, in the next 112 instances, replacing the word “Ecclessia” for “church.” But, the Greek word Ecclesia is exactly the same as the other 112 entries where it was changed to “church” wrongly. “Ecclesia” was the correct word to use in all 115 instances – not the word “church. The Greek word Ecclesia means “the called out ones.”

King James ordered additional changes in scriptures, which supported his rule over the Church of England (the Anglican Church). Other ecclesiastical terms were ordered to be left to their traditional definitions, and not according to their actual text meanings. Ironically, although the KJV is widely touted among Protestants, it is in actuality an Anglican/Catholic Bible.

King James shared the same desires and motives for exercising authority over believers as do church leaders of today. What authority? An authority as of then, and now – that always and only belongs to our Lord Jesus Christ. Again, King James intentionally orchestrated God’s Word in ways to support his position as head of the Anglican Church. As we said before, it is not surprising that most mistranslated verses of the Bible have to do with authority. How do we know they were mistranslated? We have the original scriptures, as well the origin of the words in their original languages.

Many advocates of the KJV believe that the first edition of the New Testament books were based on, and comprised from the Greek text Textus Receptus (TR) which is considered to be divinely inspired. However, the Textus Receptus (TR) was written in 1633, 22 years after the first edition of the King James Bible published in 1611. In truth, most of the transcription in the KJV, origin was based on Greek text, some 1,200 years after the death of Jesus. Other bibles that have been translated from Greek text and manuscripts, have much closer dates to the death of Christ than the KJV.

For those who idolize the King James Bible, and consider it the perfect Word of God, I have a few questions. Did God botched the first time it was translated, because some 50 years later, the Apocrypha was taken out? You know, the books that are included in the Catholic Bibles still to this very day. Again, Protestants prior to the KJV, did not believe the Apocrypha Books were spiritually inspired; nevertheless it was part of the KJV for 55 years. If the KJV is worthy of worship, one would surmise it would be error free. It’s not. How could something that is perfect, be improved? How can something that 100% perfect be altered, revised or have over 75,000 errors corrected throughout time? A good deal of the 75,000 errors were semantics and punctuation, but not all. Consider just a few examples below that were pointed out by the website thepathoftruth.com, that are either flat out contradictions, or in some way, change the meaning of God’s Word.

Please note that we do not agree with everything on this site, but found some important points we feel lends to this article. Their website grants permission to reproduce materials, as long as the wording is not altered. We have touched on key excerpts from the article they posted.

From the KJV, first let’s compare what Mark and Matthew stated regarding what Jesus told two of His disciples before Passover:

 Matthew 21:1-2

And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto Me.

How many animals was it? In Matthew 21:7, we are told the disciples set Him on both the ass and the colt.

Mark 11:1-2

And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, He sendeth forth two of His disciples, And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.

Now here is an example from the Old Testament:

The children of Azgad, two thousand three hundred twenty and two” (Nehemiah 7:17).

The children of Azgad, a thousand two hundred twenty and two” (Ezra 2:12).

Now here is a very disconcerting fact regarding the altering of Scripture from the KJV, pointed out on their website.

The Angel at the Bethesda Pool

In the gospel of John, it is recorded:

In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had” (John 5:3-4).

Let me ask the ardent KJV fans some questions regarding this passage. Do you believe the story here? Have you never wondered about the strangeness of it? Does God dangle the carrot or play ‘cat-and-mouse’ or tease the weak and helpless? Does He take pleasure in watching physically handicapped people awkwardly trying to jostle their way to the pool to get healed, where only the fastest one wins?

Did you know that the words from “waiting for the moving” in verse 3, and all of verse 4 are not found in the more original manuscripts? This was a piece of superstition inserted by some unbelieving scoundrel. It is the stuff of a carnal perception of Jesus Christ. It is the stuff of Lourdes, Fatima, and Catholic occultish heresy.

Consider God’s character, if you know anything of Him. Would He do such a thing? Does He display similar cruelty and callousness anywhere else in Scripture? This is a contradiction of the basic testimony of the Scriptures concerning the character of God.

Yes, He judges; yes, He destroys; but He does not toy with men, He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, and He is no sadist. Several translations omit the portion of verses 3 to 4. The NIV commentary says, Verse 4 was doubtless inserted by a later copyist to explain why people waited by the pool in large numbers.

The copyist did not heed this admonition found in both Old and New Testaments:

Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:5-6).

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you” (Deuteronomy 4:2).

I agree with this assessment – part of verse 3, and all of verse 4 is absent in the original scriptures.

Conclusion:

Again, by the time the King James Bible was translated, the Catholic Church had already been in power for over 1,300 years. The translators came armed with their own beliefs about the institutional church, its’ traditions, and the idea of a hierarchical structure between clergy and laity. Their beliefs and ideas are reflected within the translation of the KJV. The King James Bible was not made to be idolized or worship. It contains the Word of God – put into writing by men who were not perfect, and that indeed made errors. Some intentionally, some not. The translators under King James and Bancroft believed in the institutional church, and the Church of England, known as the Anglican Church today. They were not allowed to translate anything in a way that would undermine the king’s authority – even when it required misrepresenting, or omitting the truth. Most popular Bibles today, such as ASV, NIV, Scofield, relied heavily on the KJV, as the KJV did so with the Bishops Bible.

In God’s Word, it says that no one should add to the Word of God, or detract from it.

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book” (Revelation 22:18-19).

How is it then, that with the KJV words and entire books (the Apocrypha), have been, added and remove? How is that some Scriptures were altered, by adding additional words derived from the Catholic Vulgate? If it is the perfect Word of God, it would have never changed after the first edition. If it is, in today’s vernacular, “the mother of all Bibles” there should be only one edition ever printed – the 1611 edition.

Most of the KJV version, however; today remains the same, which is actually sobering considering the deliberate misrepresentations King James and Richard Bancroft commissioned the translators. But in truth, for the most part the KJV is an accurate translation; except for the crucial misrepresentations that were made deliberately, or out of the religious mindset of men. These distortions of God’s Word have played a role in keeping believers in bondage for all these centuries – but such believers, as well as those who who exercise authority over others are without excuse.

But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. But the greatest among you shall be your servant. (Matt. 23:8-11).

Any believer who is truly following God, hears the voice of the Holy Spirit, and knows that it is He who is speaking to him or her. Despite these deliberate attempts by King James to reinforce his authority through the KJV, even reading it word for word does not collaborate the bondage and works of the law church leadership command over believers. Instead of believers taking their bibles to church leaders for interpretation; they should read the Scriptures themselves, and see if their church leaders are in alignment with God’s Word.

If they do so, they would be faced with two choices:

  1. Stay in the institutional church system and advance man’s kingdom by making excuses and ignoring the truth in God’s Word – OR –
  2. leave this idolatrous thing we call “church,” and remain true to the one and only “Church” Jesus ever intended for us – His Ecclesia.

Satan is the master of deception. Leave these idolatrous institutions before it is too late.

The Pagan Practice of Dressing Up For “Church”

“The Lord walked in humility and obscurity, …unadorned in dress. Otherwise, He would not have said, ‘Behold! Those who are clad in soft raiment are in kings’ houses.” In short, He was lowly in countenance and appearance, just as Isaiah had also prophesied… He shrank back from being made a king, for He was conscious of His own kingdom. Therefore, He in the fullest manner gave us the example of turning completely from all the pride, dignity, and garments of power.” – Tertullian (200 A.D.)

Participating in the idolatrous institutions of man yields fruit of little value or substance for the Kingdom of God. One such example of such deceptive and hollow fruit, is the concept that believers are to dress up when they gather in their “churches.” To believe that dressing up for “church” shows respect and reverence of God, is not only an insult to Him, but is a pagan tradition derived from the sinful contrivances of man. It is an ungodly concept birthed straight out of Satan’s playbook, yet many Christians think it demonstrates respect for God. To believe that our God is so shallow and vain, that He would even value the things of man, is not only deception, but it is idolatry. It is the idolatry of clothing and the things valued by this world. You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight (Luke 16:15).

You cannot utilize some thing (clothing, jewelry, perfume, etc.) that man esteems, and make the mistake in believing that God is honored by it. Let’s be completely truthful here, we want others to see us dress up, and we feel proud of ourselves for it. It makes us feel spiritual, and it is something our flesh can easily engage in. “Church leaders” encourage this. They know by believers dressing up, they will not only feel more righteous about themselves, but it is also part of the mystery “church” leadership wish to convey behind attending “church.” It helps indemnify the mystique surrounding the “church” itself, the pastor, and its culture. It is just one more work of the law, that helps attendees feel engaged and more spiritual about the whole “church” process.

For those who believe in dressing up for man’s idolatrous institution, I’m going to get a little rough here to some, but let’s be brutally honest. You like how dressing up for “church” make you feel about yourself. It makes you feel more spiritual, and you want others to see you as such. You want people to see you dressed up and you desire them to acknowledge you. You even enjoy when others outside the “church” environment see you dress up. You convince yourself that you are dressing up for God, and want other people to know that Sunday is a special day. Not only is Sunday NOT a special day set aside by God as the world believes (which we address in another article later), but let’s look at the heart of the matter. Very little of this has anything to do with God. It has to do with your own self-aggrandizement and your desire for others to think of you as a spiritual person.

What does God’s Word say about dressing up? Did He ever instruct Jesus, the apostles, or anyone else to dress up in the New Testament? Did Christ ever say that believers are to dress up in worldly garments, special clothes or jewelry, before picking up their cross to follow Him? No, but man tells us to do so, and we oblige them by picking up our wallets and tossing our Bibles out the window for their interpretation. 1 Samuel 16:7 – (God speaking) “People judge others by what they look like, but I judge people by what is in their hearts.” Sadly, most are so spiritually dull that they actually believe God is impressed with their idolatrous garments. Most believers simply accept religious practices without any question, and choose to follow men over God’s Word. Virtually all ancient religious practices before the birth of Jesus, required participants to dress up in some fashion before entering designated places of worship.

Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God (1 Peter 3:3-4).

In our society and culture, as in most, we admire a “well-dressed man or woman.” But to God it is meaningless. God gets no glory by you and your fellow “churchgoers” dressing up, which only signifies to the world that He is not only a “superficial god,” but it conveys that we are still under the law. Attending “church” is a work of a law. Dressing up for church is a work of the law. They are contrivances birthed out the motives and ambitions of man. The only thing the world sees is our doctrine, our traditions, and believers who are knee deep in bondage to the devices and rules of man. God gets no glory from it – it indicates to the world that our God is like all the other gods in religions of the world.

As all “church” tradition can be traced back to the first church in today’s vernacular, the Catholic Church – so does the origin of dress. Well, that is dressing up as far as believers go. Long before Christ walked the earth, pagans were dressing up for their gods thousands upon thousands of years ago. Dressing up for the gods was birthed completely out of paganism. When Constantine Emperor of Rome, decreed believers attend this system he orchestrated and called “church”, no one ever knew which “church” he would show up in. So as a result, churchgoers started dressing up, not for God, but to show their respect to the Emperor in case he showed up. Hence, the idolatrous tradition for dressing up for this worldly monstrosity we call “church” was born.

To say the garments we wear show reverence towards God is to perceive Him in our own fleshly terms. That even goes for women who sport tightly wounded hair buns, dresses, long skirts, plain tops, etc., to achieve a certain “look” of spiritual chastity. God looks at the heart, and although some believers will say that very same thing, they believe God still feels honored by the things of the world. Clothing is a thing of the world. It is something esteemed by people, and it is idolatry when any form of spirituality is attributed to it. You might as well walk into a “church” with goat’s blood smeared on your body, incense, or a ram’s horn. The minute you deem inanimate objects as reverential, honorable, respectful, holy, you have committed IDOLATRY. And the minute you attribute spirituality to clothing – including your own, you have opened the door to deception and have invited Satan and his demonic principalities in. The demonic crowd grows, as it always does whenever a work of the flesh and our sin nature is involved. Satan is delighted.

“If anyone thinks that vestments, jewels, and other things that are considered precious [by men] are valued by God, he is altogether ignorant of what God is.” – Lactantius (304-313 A.D.)

The Mystical Man-Made Church System in All its Glory

God that made the world, and all things that are therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands. Acts 17:24

Everywhere you look there are church buildings – to the small country church, to large auditoriums with sophisticated architecture. It is not at all uncommon in some areas in the US (like in the south) to find 4 to 6 (sometimes more) “churches” on one city block. Although God repeatedly tells us in His Word that He does not reside in anything made with human hands, we refuse to believe Him. As a matter of fact, we insist that He must be wrong. We are adamant that He needs our “church building” in order to properly worship Him. We still worship Him as the Jews did in the Old Testament, and refute the biblical fact that Jesus has replaced the temples of the past. We discount that Jesus clearly said that we are now in Him, and we are as “living stones.” What we have created and understand to be “church” is found nowhere in Scripture.

We attributed an air of mysticism, and spiritual preeminence to the buildings we erect. It does not matter how large or small the building is, or what it is made of (brick, glass, wood; vinyl siding) – we deem spiritual attributes to it. We insist God is more preeminent inside this thing we have built with our own hands – as opposed to outside of it. If you happened to say it’s the people inside the building that matters, then it is also true that it is the people outside the building that matters. Two or more believers… Any deference to the building is deemed sacrilegious. Yet we continue to believe that somehow God is honored by our idolatry and our ignorance to His Word.

Steeples reach into the sky as if arms outstretched out to Heaven. Most church buildings have either a steeple or a cross on top to symbolize this. Everything inside, from the pews, the altar, the pulpit, the hymnals, are viewed as possessing spiritual qualities in and of themselves. We attribute an element of mysticism to the actual objects themselves – we see these inanimate objects as “holy things.” The sanctuaries we produce with our own hands is deemed holy and reverent. We have now replaced the synagogues of the past, with our own building, our own rituals, and our own observances. It is nothing but idolatry to believe that being subjected to a person with a religious title, or a building, or certain religious acts are required for our relationship with God. We refuse to accept God’s Word that Jesus through His death replaced all of these things – only because we do not want to believe it.

The whole process, the “church” itself and its rituals are seen as spiritual entities. We have been led to believe that the man or woman preaching up front has a special anointing of the Holy Spirit, and must somehow know more spiritually than we do. No one can pass their anointing to another person – (a mystical concept) often promoted by “church leaders.” Many falsely assert that they are able to maintain a mystical “covering” over their followers – if you will, like an umbrella of protection. It is a false teaching. We revere our “church leaders” – we IDOLIZE them. We have unequivocally allowed them to usurp Christ’s lordship in our lives. As far as the sermon – the pastor or priest must come up with one, regardless whether an individual hears from the Holy Spirit or not. Come Sunday (or whatever day for that matter) – there’s going to be a sermon.

Charles Newbold writes, “The word church, as we use it, speaks of an illegal, unholy mystical union which embodies buildings, institutions, denominations, and people. These have been so fused and confused with each other that they perpetuate the dangerous lie that this Thing we call church (buildings, institutions, denominations, and the people associated with them) is Christ’s assembly of called-out-ones. This Thing we call church looks good in its outward appearance, but is often inwardly controlled by men and women ambitiously, often unknowingly, seeking something for themselves.”

In the Old Testament ritual observances typified worship in every area of life. Animal sacrifice, the burning of incense, attendance at the temple and other rigors were imposed on the people of Israel. God’s Word, however; tells us that all of this were but shadows of the worship to come in the New Covenant. “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ (Colossians 2:16-18).” But men in their carnal natural has still maintained the law with a mix of old traditions and the new. The True Church is us – it is a way of life. It is not a show, or a sermon by a priest or pastor, nor a musical performance, or groups and activities, all with men dictating and sanctioning times of worship by pre-programming the Holy Spirit.

In the Old Testament, the High Priest was in authority over the men who entered the temple. They remained separate from the other Jews, and this same aura of mystery, tradition, and authority has now been adopted by today’s priest/pastors. We are enamored by those with this false “spiritual authority.” The sanctuary or platform from which they preach, is typically elevated on some level above the ground where their followers sit. It is not just about giving the audience an unobstructed view – there is a great deal of symbolism involved. This elevation symbolizes the hierarchical, authoritarian relationship which is not from God Almighty, but instead is spawned out of the rules and traditions of man.

Wake up! Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church. There is no other – men no longer have authority over other men. Men no longer have preeminence over other men in the Body of Christ. And rest assured, in the original scriptures there was no such thing as men holding an office – that life form developed out of Catholicism. In the original Scriptures, the word “office” nor anything with such a meaning ever existed. We will discuss later how the elders in the New Testament did not rule and have authority over believers. They literally were elders – older and trusted men in the community. The elders were guides and led by example – they did not “lord” over the believers who trusted them.

Can you find one occurrence in the New Testament books were “worship” in the ceremonial/specific sense (going to a specific place to worship) was required of followers of Christ? The answer is no. In Old Testament, God only dwelt in temples built with human hands because the Holy Spirit had not yet resided within believers. In the New Testament, we see a move away from ceremony to where every believer in the Body of Christ is a priest. We now have direct access to God the Father through the Holy Spirit. For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law (Hebrews 7:12).

We are still operating under the law. Now, the “church system” is in exact opposition of what Jesus commanded us to do in the New Testament. Not only does God no longer require a mediator between us and Him – He forbids it. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and man, which is the man Christ Jesus, (1 Timothy 2:5). Protestants, this is not referring to just the Catholic priest – it is referring to any man or woman who places themselves in a position of authority over another believer. Jesus is our only spiritual authority, but for most that is not good enough. Your failure to see this is rooted in your friendship with the world.

Take a Good Look at Yourself

Is your walk about Jesus Christ – or is about you? Is it about your relationships with other believers in the “church system” and how you are perceived, or it solely based on your relationship with Jesus? Or is your walk based on the non-scriptural, false fears that men have taught you, such as “Go to “church” on Sunday. It’s very likely that your relationship with Jesus is based on this thing called “church” – and not the other way around.

Judge these words and search the scriptures – then do some honest soul searching. Remember – God knows what is in our hearts; we can deceive ourselves, but we are not capable of deceiving Him. Believers in the “institutional church system” only have a religious relationship with Jesus – not a spiritual one. They think they have a spiritual relationship, but what they call “Spirit” is actually works of the “flesh.” These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by man. Matthew 15:8-9. By “flesh”, we mean man’s carnal nature – or his sin nature. It is our failed state that came after the fall of Adam and Eve.

Side Note*: We will use the term “man” when referring to all of mankind. Women are included in this, and we do not mean to be disparaging or sexist towards women. It is much easier and more succinct in our writings to simply use the term “man.”

We are imploring you to search the truth in God’s Word. Forget about what men and women have taught you, and their self-serving interpretations. Do as the Bereans, and examine everything; including what we are saying to ascertain whether it is in accordance to Scripture. These were also more noble men than they which were at Thessalonica, which received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Acts 17:11 Pray that God will impart the Holy Spirit to guide you, and give you the courage to abandon the fear of going somewhere where you rather not go.

By this, we mean the fear of:

  • Discovering that you have been deceived by the teachings of men.
  • Relinquishing the “church” culture and organizations that you cherish and esteem.
  • Being subjected to what others think.
  • Thinking of yourself more highly than you ought, by judging your spiritual health by the requirements, activities, and things demanded by “church leadership.”

Ask yourself, who are you trying to protect? Again, God’s Word says; He who is spiritual examines all things. Pray that God will open your eyes to see what He wants you to see. Pray for Him to give you the strength see past the traditions and rules of men over the truth in His Word. Pray for the Holy Spirit to touch your heart, so that you may hear His voice. Pray for Him to give you the strength in overwhelming opposition to stand up for Him and speak the truth. Pray for the courage to let go of those things that provide you comfort, but have no biblical basis. Pray for God’s help to walk in the Spirit, and not in the things you see, sense, feel, or fear.

We are in a war against unseen spiritual forces, and we are losing that war. There are always principalities around us, and their primary goal is to destroy mankind and our faith in Jesus. This thing we call “church” is jammed packed with principalities because its foundation is based on deception. When you attend this “thing” you call “church”, the floodgates open, and these principalities are released. I’m sure we just lost a lot of you here, but it is the truth. When Satan deceives, he never goes for the obvious – he goes for what is the most deceptive. He goes for what seems so right, but in actuality is deception that is contrary to what God truly desires for us.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the assaults of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, and against the worldly governors, the princes of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness, which are in the high places. Ephesians: 6:10-12

Not only the eternal destiny of all believers is at stake – there are unbelievers we should be winning over for Jesus. The only thing we have done is pushed them away. Don’t blame the world – we are to blame. We have put men, his doctrines, and his institutions over Christ first. All of these things have usurped Jesus lordship over our lives. We try to tell the world they can find freedom in Jesus, while they plainly see we ourselves do not even accept the freedom He provided on the cross. Ironically, they see what we are unable to see. You need to start asking yourself, “Why?”

This is why I speak to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: ” ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’ Matthew 12:13-15
